According to the June, 2010 Kitsap Market Statistical Summary there were 1,297 closed sales of existing homes for the year ending 6/30/2010. In a separate study I discovered that a total of 708 of those closings were classified as bank owned properties or required third party approval (aka short sales). Let’s do the arithmetic. That is 708 divided by 1,297 or 55% of all sales were closed by these highly motivated sellers.

While there are some good things to bring optimism to the Kitsap real estate markets a slowdown in foreclosures is not one of them.

Real estate website Zillow.com says one of every five U.S. home owners owed more on their mortgage than their home was worth in the fourth quarter. The percentage of American single-family homes with mortgages in negative equity rose to 21.4% in the fourth quarter from 21% in the third quarter, according to the Zillow Real Estate Market Reports.
